Hitchin Hike 2015

Date: Saturday 10 October 2015

Firstly who can take part?
Anyone who has links with scouting and guiding and also any students completing their DofE. Any family or friends who would also like to walk one of the routes are very welcome but EVERY team must register in advance.

Do all adults need a DBS check?
If a team is organised and then registered by Scout and Guide Leaders, the leaders should apply the usual rules and guidance in terms of how their groups are organised on the day. Normally, this would mean that groups have more than one adult so no one has unsupervised access to young people and there are sufficient adults to deal with emergencies should they arise.

Teams organised and registered by parents should have more than one adult so there are sufficient adults to deal with emergencies should they arise.

There are 3 routes of different distances:-
Route 1) 6 miles - for those looking for a shorter route. Starting in Hitchin and finishing at the Priory School following part of the Hitchin HOOP.

Checkpoints?
All routes will have checkpoints, some marshalled, some just to know you are on the correct route! Those that are marshalled serve three purposes:
1/ To record the progress of each team around the course.
2/ To offer some refreshment (cold drinks/snack bars etc).
3/ To provide a place where walkers who wish to stop can drop out of the event safely.

Priory School
There will be hot and cold drinks available before and after the hikes.

Team Fundraising?
Teams will have the opportunity to hike and raise funds for the Herts Air Ambulance. Teams will be provided with a pre-setup online fundraising account if they wish to take part. All a team then has to do is give the online link to family and friends to get sponsorship.

Cost?
Entry fee will be £3 per person, which will include refreshments and a Hitchin Hike badge on completion of the challenge.

For Non Hikers?
If you prefer not to hike and would like to be part of the support team/marshalling a check point/refreshments at Priory, then please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
